How to Participate
The Peachtree Corners Photography Club Gallery is open to all registered members. If you are not on the mailing list, Join the club first.
The first step is to register for Gallery participation. Upon registration you will be provided with an individual, secure upload page. The link to the page will be sent you in an email. (Check you spam folder if you have not received it within 48 hours.)
You need to register only once. You can use the upload folder throughout the time that entries are accepted.
How to prepare and upload your photos
There are some technical requirement and some unusual procedures to submit your entries to our gallery.
Preparing the photos
Edit your photos as you normally do to bring out the best. Be sure you have used the full dynamic range, the data in the histogram should reach both ends. Photos that lack either blacks or whites look good only in rare cases.
Title and/or Caption
Use your photo editor or another appropriate app to add a Title and/or a Caption in the appropriate text field. The title-caption must have the following format:
Firstname Lastname – Title of Your Photo (place a space before and after the hyphen). If your editor allows both Title and Caption, enter the same text in both fields. If your editor offers a “Object Name” field, enter the title-caption there as well.
If your editor does not provide these options, or you have trouble doing so, you may add the title-caption after uploading in your upload folder (more on this below).
Do not confuse the title with the file name. Those are entirely different parameters.
File size and format
Then export, save, resize the photos so they are sized 1600 to 2400 pixels on the larger side. The file size must not exceed 8 MB to fit the requirements of our website system.
The photos must be in JPG (or JPEG) format.
Name your photos in this fashion: FirstnameLastname-Nnn Where “FirstnameLastname” is your first and last name, and “nn” is a number or designation of your choosing. The entire file name may not exceed 32 characters. The filename must not include any spaces, just letters, digits, and one hyphen The resulting file names then look like this:
Name-202.jpg Name-203.jpg etc.
- Embedded title or caption – Your Name – Title of Your Photo
- Image size – 1600 – 2400 pixels wide
- File size – not more than 8 MB
- File format – JPG
- File name – in this pattern: FirstnameLastname-101.jpg
Submitting your entries
Upon registering for the exhibition you received an email with a link to a secure, private, online OneDrive folder. Do not share that email or that link with anyone else! Open the folder by clicking the link in that email. You can then drag your photos from your computer folder to the OneDrive open in your browser. The process is straight-forward and might look like this:
It may take a few minutes for your photos to appear in your folder. Refresh your browser to see the thumbnails.
Once your photos are showing as thumbnails in your folder you can inspect each photo by just a single click on the thumbnail.
If your photo shows “Add a caption” at the bottom (run your pointer there), then the photo file is not titled or captioned in the appropriate format. You may do so in the OneDrive folder. Either click the “Add a caption” text (blue arrow below) or the circled-i in the upper right (yellow arrow below), to open the information side-panel.
You may then type in the caption in the field in the information pane (green arrow below).
I should have the form Your Name – Title of Your Photo
See this example:
End the new caption text by pressing the Enter key. Make sure that now the caption is showing underneath the photo (move the pointer there).
The next step is for the members of the gallery production team (you may see their mugshots where it says “Has access”) to make sure that your photos are properly named and captioned. If there is an error, the team member will try to make the corrections for you. We want to put your best foot forward!
For some gallery projects the photos will then be removed from your folder and made available to the selection team. For some gallery projects your photos may remain in your folder.
Selected photos will be shown on your own gallery portfolio section. The caption will be underneath each photo for all the world to see. Your additional text describing or explaining your photo from the registration form will also be included in your gallery section.
We really do want to show your work in the best possible way!
